While basically useless, hamsters continue to be a popular pet for young children. I guess it's an easy way to introduce them to the concepts of running away and dying since they seem to be professionals in those arenas.
As Trish told me.
"Dad trying to find hamsters in the walls at Walnut Creek after they escaped"
It was simple you know, Annette wanted hamsters so we started out with two, which quickly turned into 40, which is also when we learned that hamsters eat their young. While this was going on, a couple of the adult hamsters escaped into the walls inside our house in Walnut Creek. They were impossible to get to without breaking into a wall because the only openings were at the very top at the back of a cabinet and a little tiny opening in the front. The hamsters were never recovered and eventually died inside the walls, although dad did his best to get them out. There’s dad twisting a clothes hanger trying to get the hamsters out. He’s probably the one that killed them by stabbing them in the head with the hanger.
